Getting Prepared for Travel Credentialing

The credentialing process is a crucial component in starting your next travel assignment. No matter your discipline, getting credentialed is your way of verifying the qualifications that allow you to provide care in your new facility—including requirements like a drug and health screen, a background check, as well as any necessary licensure and certifications relevant to your position.

Once you are accepted for a new assignment, your recruiter will refer your information to our credentialing team, who then compile your individual credentialing requirements for the discipline and state that you will be working in. Once you’ve looked at your list of requirements, don’t panic! You are not on this credentialing journey alone. You will have an assigned point of contact on the credentialing team to help navigate you through the process, so that you are ready to work.  

THE ROLE OF YOUR AMN CREDENTIALING TEAM 

Your credentialing team contact will communicate each requirement you need to fulfill before starting, so you know exactly what you have to do and when. They are present to answer any questions you might have about the process or specific requirements, while keeping track of your progress from start to finish. If you require appointments for medical exams or drug testing, your credentialing team is on the case to help get you scheduled at a convenient location, on time.

Things Every Clinician Should Know Before Getting Started

For all Allied Clinicians, make sure you are not psyching yourself out before you even start! To help you make credentialing an efficient and stress-free process, we’ve compiled some helpful things to remember:

   Communication is key 

It’s always better to over communicate than under communicate. Make your recruiter(s) and credentialing team your allies in getting your steps completed by reaching out in advance to get prepped. They are there to answer any questions or concerns you might have along the way. There is no such thing as a silly question! Also remember, the state boards don’t bite—If you have questions specific to licensing, they are often the best lifeline.

     Help the team help you 

It’s imperative that you move through the process without any hitches before your start date. So, lean on the resources at your disposal! The Credentialing team possesses a wealth of knowledge on the process, no matter which discipline you are, and your recruiter is your support system for everything else you need get ready for your first day. 

     Don’t wait until the last minute

The quicker you submit your required items, the quicker credentialing can clear you. Waiting until the last minute to complete a step will only open the door to potential errors or issues in clearance. Typically, there is a deadline for credentialing a week before your start date, so plan ahead to ensure you are scheduling appointments and submitting documents on time! 

     Nothing is required without a reason 

Rest assured that nothing required in the credentialing process is a frivolous ask. Each individual component of the process is required to ensure that you are ready for your first day on assignment.

     Common credentialing items needed:

Below are some of the most common items requested if you’d like to start compiling things into an easy to find place. When you officially take an assignment, our credentialing team will be able to tell you exactly what is needed and how to obtain it.

  • State License
  • TB Test within last year
  • Physical within last year
  • Copy of Driver’s License
  • Copy of Social Security Card
  • Background Screen
  • Drug Screen
  • CPR Certification
